Departamento de CMIM y Química Inorgánica-INBIO, Universidad de Cádiz, Puerto Real, Spain

Dr. Manuel Jiménez Tenorio is full professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Cadiz, Spain, and current head of the Research Institute on Biomolecules (INBIO). He obtained his PhD from the University of Sussex, UK. He is principal investigator of the research group on Evolutionary Venomics and Synthesis of Biomolecules. He has been researching cone snails for more than 20 years. In close cooperation with the National Museum of Natural Sciences-CSIC, Madrid, he has been involved in works on the phylogenomics of cone snails, and on proteotranscriptomic studies of their venom, with emphasis on the species from West Africa and the Mediterranean, but also from elsewhere. Several bioinformatic tools have been developed recently at his research group for assisting in the assembly and annotation of the venom gland transcriptome of cone snails, as well as for the evaluation in silico of the potential bioactivity of conopeptides based upon structural comparisons. His studies on venomics have been expanded to include also arachnids and other venomous organisms.
